Located on the southern fringes of the Sahara Desert, Burkina Faso is a landlocked sub-Saharan country with limited natural resources. Over the last fifteen years, Burkina Faso’s economic growth has been more than 5 percent yearly that made the country as the leading country in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).

Going forward, Burkina Faso’s socioeconomic development will bank on its openness to international trade and a diversification of its exports. The government focuses on a vast infrastructure building program as part of its accelerated growth and sustainable development strategy. Additional measures such as reforms to liberalize Burkina Faso’s economy and promote employment by SMEs, will also help boost economic growth.
